A commentary and resource on Law and Sexuality by Professor Chris Ashford and guests
Manchester Pride 2015 takes place over the Bank Holiday weekend. I’m really sad that I’m not going to be there this year. Manchester Pride acts as the major Pride event in the North of England, and arguably forms part of the triumvirate of major UK Pride’s along with London and Brighton.
In addition to the official website, the local press – the Manchester Evening News – have produced an ‘all you need to know’ guide, along with this awesome map detailing some of Manchester’s LGBT history.
As the MEN notes, the site begins on Canal Street at the New Union, which has been a meeting place for the LGBT community in the north west since 1865.
From Britain’s first openly lesbian mayor Margaret Roff to the Midland Hotel where Noel Coward met Ivor Novello, follow the map through the significant events and locations that shaped LGBT life in Manchester.
Looking at the artists and events, it’s going to be an awesome weekend. To everyone going, have a brilliant time!
