Reforming the Gender Recognition Act 2004

Bex Stinson – one of my former Northumbria undergrads – is doing a cracking job in her role as Head of Trans Inclusion at Stonewall, raising their game on trans issues and helping to shift them from an organisation (in England at any rate) that didn’t engage with trans issues to one that is at the forefront of campaigning.  Earlier this Summer, the UK Government launched a consultation on reforming the Gender Recognition Act 2004.  You can view that consultation here.

Stonewall have produced a really useful online guide for responding to the consultation to check out here. A s Stonewall note, ‘the Gender Recognition Act 2004 (GRA) governs how trans people can have their identity legally recognised. This was groundbreaking in its time – it’s now seriously out of date and needs reform.’

This is your chance to be part of updating the law.  The consultation closes on 19 October 2018.
